2024-2025 Strength and Support
A Note from Aidin Afrasiabi and Anmoldeep Kaur
Starting anew in a new country can be challenging, but the community and people that surround you can make that transition easier. A new country means a new culture to get used to, a new language to learn, and people whom you don’t know what to expect from. It's a given of immigration to experience a new way of life, and the way that immigrants/refugees acclimate to those experiences is what #MyStory documents this year.
Amid the difficulties that confront an immigrant/refugee during this transition, there is comfort in the faces of neighbors or siblings who offer their support. That support is the strength behind someone who is now stronger and comfortable in their identity as an immigrant in the US. This year’s theme for #MyStory 2024-2025 was Strength and Support.
Our volunteers this year spoke to teachers, students, lawyers, activists, and researchers who braved transition with strength and resolve through the help of mentors. These mentors played a role, whether small and momentary or long and permanent, that shaped a pivotal moment in our storytellers’ lives. Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the storytellers we were so fortunate to work with this year.
Note: The a portion of the photos in this year's selection of stories were submitted by the storytellers
